Join Rachel Jones Ross for an in-depth photography workshop in Greenland, centered around the spectacular Ilulissat Icefjord. Through hands-on instruction, private boat expeditions, and personalized feedback, participants will explore light, composition, and storytelling in one of the world’s most extraordinary polar environments.

Day 1 – Arrival in Ilulissat
Guests should plan to arrive in Ilulissat no later than 15:00. Upon arrival, you will be transferred from the airport to our hotel for check-in. In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner and orientation session at the hotel.
 
After dinner, we set out for our first midnight sun photography session in Disko Bay. A short hike leads us to an elevated viewpoint overlooking the bay, where we will photograph the ever-changing giant icebergs, hopefully glowing in the warm, golden light of the midnight sun.
 
Days 2–5 – Exploring the Ilulissat Icefjord
Each day begins with a group breakfast at the hotel, followed by daytime exploration of Ilulissat and its surroundings. During these outings, we will photograph Greenlandic huskies, scenes of everyday life, and notable local landmarks such as the historic bayfront church and the hillside cemetery. These excursions also provide excellent opportunities for street photography and environmental portraits.
 
In the evenings, we embark on private four-hour boat excursions into the Ilulissat Icefjord. Over the course of these days, we will enjoy five such outings. Working closely with our captain, we will carefully position the boat to achieve optimal compositions and lighting, aiming to capture icebergs at their most dramatic during sunset and midnight sun conditions. With luck, we may also encounter humpback, minke, or fin whales.
 
Weather and timing permitting, we may visit traditional fishing settlements such as Oqaatsut, Saqqaq, and Qasigiannguit, offering further insight into Greenlandic coastal life.
 
Between excursions, we will hold group post-processing sessions at the hotel, focusing on techniques to refine, enhance, and elevate your images.
 
Day 6 – Final Midnight Sun Session
After breakfast, we conduct an in-depth image review and critique session, reflecting on the work created throughout the workshop. In the evening, we embark on our final private boat excursion, with the flexibility to revisit locations that offer the greatest potential for exceptional light and compelling compositions.
 
Day 7 – Departure
After breakfast, we transfer to Ilulissat Airport (JAV) for return flights home.

Disclaimer

The tour is always dependent on weather. There is however always plenty to see and do if conditions do not favor any part of our original plan.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you cancel and the workshop greater than 120 days from the start date of the workshop, and the seats does not fill, we will refund you the full amount you have paid, minus a $200 service charge. If you cancel and the workshop within 120 days or less from the start date of the workshop, and the seats does not fill, the fee is non-refundable.
