In the far western part of Mongolia, in a region called Olgii, you’ll find yourself immersed in one of the most unique and culturally rich experiences in Central Asia. This is the homeland of the Kazakh eagle hunters — a community that has preserved the ancient art of eagle falconry for generations.

Watching these hunters ride across the open steppe, clad in traditional attire, with a golden eagle perched on their arm, is like stepping into a living piece of history. It’s not a performance — it’s a real, living tradition that continues to this day. These hunters train their eagles from a young age to hunt foxes and hares in the rugged terrain of the Altai Mountains.

To support our photography workshops in this area, we built the Golden Sky Camp in 2025. It’s located right in the heart of this stunning landscape. The camp includes 11 traditional Mongolian gers, each thoughtfully outfitted with modern comforts — cozy beds, private toilets, heaters to keep warm during cold mountain nights, and access to electricity for charging gear or staying connected.

Golden Sky Camp isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a space that allows us to connect deeply with the land, the people, and their incredible cultural heritage, while still having the essentials needed for working in remote conditions.
